VanceS: yeah, I went on skype and lost TI momentarily BillC: skype does that, huh? DennisOl: I'm hoping to join your multiliteracy webcast today, Vance--assuming there are no Skype problems. VanceS: there might be a webcast happening right now VanceS: checking BillC: how's skype been since the great skype outage of '07? EBobB: You could always do a skypecast and avoid the webcast. VanceS: not challenging enough EBobB: I didnt know there had been a big outage....when. BeyzaY: Hi Dennis DennisOl: Carla Arena, Illya Arnet-Clark and others had a good one on Friday. DennisOl: How are you, my friend Beyza? BillC: seems like it was a couple of weeks ago now, they blamed it on ms EBobB: Oh, so not so BIG BeyzaY: fine, getting ready for a busy year BeyzaY: and U Dennis? DennisOl: Where are you now, Beyza? BillC: they said it effected just about everyone DennisOl: I'm OK. I'm still at home, but I'm keeping busy. BeyzaY: at a Univiersity her SedatA joined the room. BeyzaY: e SedatA: hi all DennisOl: Hi, Sedat. BeyzaY: Hi sedat EBobB: I missed that one, Bill. BillC: Hi Sedat EBobB: Hi Sedat. SedatA: hi VanceS: hi all BillC: actually I missed it too. Don't really use skype that often. . .I'm old. . . DennisOl: Beyza: For some reason, I thought you were planning to study abroad--in England or the U.S. VanceS: no one is streaming now, whew BillC: HI again Vance EBobB: "Old" is a pathetic excuse. VanceS: hi again bill BillC: yup DennisOl: No, the MultiLit show is the next one scheduled, I think. BillC: actually, probably too busy trying to keep up with a teaching job EBobB: I saw a description this week, of the internet as " the toy that the 50+ generation built but did not get to play with" DennisOl: Interesting, EB! BillC: that's an interesting description. Where'd you see that? EBobB: But that is changing dramatically. BeyzaY: I 'm still palanning to study abroad Dennis DennisOl: But I think quite a few of the 50+ generation play with it. EBobB: We are the fastest growing group of users. DennisOl: Beyza: I thought so! DennisOl: EB: I can believe that! MoiraH joined the room. BillC: Wonder how many boomers use web 2.0 stuff. . . BeyzaY: Hi Moira DennisOl: Moira! BillC: Hey Moira MoiraH: Hi everyone SedatA: hi Moira DennisOl: Bill: I think quite a few of them do. MoiraH: Ah Dennis, nice to see you :-) EBobB: I think quite a few, Bill, because that is a group that is very interested in making social connections. DennisOl: Merci bien, Moira. EBobB: They are very interested in learning and in hobbies. BillC: true. That would be an interesting survey MoiraH: hi Bill, Sedat, Beyza, Bob,Bobbi and Vance EBobB: Hi Moira. MoiraH have I left anyone out? VanceS: hi moira VanceS: I'm setting up the webcast VanceS: might get catatonic soon DennisOl: Is Bobbi here? VanceS: she's 'here' MoiraH: I thought she was, but my mistake DennisOl: Ah. MoiraH: ah MoiraH: How are you Dennis? DennisOl: Vance: Will you be doing text chat at the Webcast Academy in addition to Skyping? DennisOl: Moira: I'm OK. I've felt a bit better the last week or so because it hasn't been as hot here. EBobB: Vance has four arms and two keyboards. SedatA smiles DennisOl: Maybe even six arms and four keyboards! EBobB: He is known as the Octopus of the net. MoiraH: that's good to hear Dennis :-) BillC: seems sort of like it. . . DennisOl smiles, too. DennisOl: Thanks, Moira! BeyzaY: HE's really good at multitasking right EBobB: Talk about a multitasker. BillC: gotta have a couple of brains in there too DennisOl: At least a couple! BillC: dual core. . . MoiraH: How's the course going, Vance? DennisOl chuckles EBobB: I like it bill. MoiraH: Sorry I can't find time to be 'in' it EBobB: Moira, I think not finding the time, is one of the requirements. MoiraH: lol EBobB: IF you cant find the time, then you ARE in it. DennisOl: I've seen some of the course materials, and it's undergone some transformations since I was in it (which is perfectly natural, especially given the focus). DennisOl: In fact, I guess 'transformations' are very important to multileracy. DennisOl: multiliteracy BillC: multitasking AND multiliteracy. . . DennisOl: Hear, hear! EBobB: and mutilateracy. DennisOl: Love it, EB! MoiraH: the Ms of onliners DennisOl chuckles VanceS: starting to play with the controls here VanceS: not following the chat VanceS: this gets busy !! BillC: int the meantime-- a bit ago, you all were talking about skypecasts, do you set up a channel or something for one? DennisOl: I'm sure it does! DennisOl: Bill: See the following: MoiraH: I'm preparing for a presentation I'm giving at Online Educa Moscow and I'm Muddling in Multiliteracy trying to prepare content where I won't have Internet - yes, back to PPT DennisOl: http://www.skype.com/help/guides/skypecasts.html VanceS: i don't think skypecasts work these days DennisOl: Moira: Amazing! MoiraH: even skype keeps giving hiccups on my pc lately VanceS: is Muddling in M/lit the title of the presentation? DennisOl: Mine, too. MoiraH: Thanks Dennis, it was even more amazing when I got a phonecall from the Russian Ministry of Education inviting me to present at a university conference as well - so I'm really excited, especially as I can't speak a word of Russian ;-) BillC: Thanks D. Interesting. Guess I'll have to sign in later and check the rest of the story. DennisOl: Vance: I didn't know that (about Skypecast not working). BillC: yeah, what's with that? MoiraH: No Vance but it's a good idea ;-) DennisOl: Very exciting, Moira. DennisOl: My pleasure, Bill. DennisOl: Moira: There will probably be lots of people in your audience who speak English and French--or both. MoiraH: yes, thank goodness BarbaraS1 joined the room. DennisOl smiles DennisOl: Bobbi? MoiraH: for Online Educa there is simultaneous translation for those who want it with headphones BillC: Hi Barbara DennisOl: Very interesting, Moira! BarbaraS1: HI! MoiraH: Hello VanceS: great, bobbi is going to act as my eyes and ears here BillC: That's v. cool, Moira. When is it? BarbaraS1: I finally made it in the room BarbaraS1: yes, let me know if there are any Vance questions BarbaraS1: I'll nudge him MoiraH: 30 September to 2 October and then the university conference is on the 3 BarbaraS1: how are you all...Dennis long time!!!!!! DennisOl: See this website: DennisOl: http://www.online-educa-moscow.com/index_eng.php DennisOl: I'm OK, thanks, Bobbi. I love being part of this group, but 5:00 AM is awfully early! RitaZ joined the room. BarbaraS1: it is DennisOl: Rita! BeyzaY: Hi Rita RitaZ hugs everybody good day! BillC: Hey Rita RitaZ: hi, Dennis, sooooo long! MoiraH: It's the first time that it is taking place in Russia and they are not very organised in comparison to Online Educa Berlin and Spain - a steep learnig curve going on I think DennisOl: Yes, far too long, Rita. DennisOl: Abrazos! MoiraH: Hi Riat! EBobB: Hi Rita. MoiraH hmm Riat instead of Rita, not bad ;-) DennisOl: Actually, I like Riat. It has a very exotic sound! ;-) RitaZ: you ok, Dennis? DennisOl: Yes. MoiraH: you are now renamed Riat, Rita! RitaZ: riat sounds like tiot, ...hm RitaZ: riot BillC: yeah, isn't there a sports car named after you? MoiraH: tiot???? DennisOl: he he he RitaZ: riot, Moi MoiraH: let me in the secret you two!! BarbaraS1: it sounds like a city in morocco to me DennisOl: I agree, Bobbi. RitaZ: quite exotic, ha ha RitaZ: ok RitaZ: so, Moi....? MoiraH: yes my dear Riat?? DennisOl: I'm going to leave in a couple of minutes. I need to go outside to get the morning paper, refill my coffee cup, and get set up for Vance's MultiLiteracy show. RitaZ: talked about your achievement...? BeyzaY: when is it? RitaZ . o O ( Moira is too modest to talk about her deserved achievement ;-) ) BeyzaY: I have a question about blogs guys BarbaraS1: I just noticed they were discussing a conference in Moscow BillC .oO(maybe she's packing her bags at the moment. . .) RitaZ: must be! BeyzaY: is it possible to upload word files to the blogs= MoiraH: Well, I was talking with Beyza but she's sharing the question here now :-) MoiraH: Beyza is working with blogger BillC: which blog software? BarbaraS1: I don't know...does any know? BeyzaY: blogger BarbaraS1: anybody know? BillC: sorry, missed that-- not sure with blogger BeyzaY: do I have to add a widget RitaZ: I worked with blogger, now I know it has more features, but dunno about that BeyzaY: or do u know any blogging server that allows you to upload word files BeyzaY: ? MoiraH: I was just saying to Beyzra that I haven't worked with blogger for a while, so don't have a firm answer on that MoiraH: sorry Beyza BarbaraS1: maybe you can ask the webheads group RitaZ: Multiply, Moi? BeyzaY: np BarbaraS1: I am sure one of those talented webheads will have an answer! BeyzaY: yeah that's a good idea BillC: wordpress does MoiraH: question - why would you want to upload a lot of word docs to a blog? BeyzaY: really? RitaZ: yeah, good question, Moi MoiraH: and how much is 'a lot'? BillC: you can upload docs and then link to them BeyzaY: well I set u p a blog for all the instructors in my uni BeyzaY: and BeyzaY: the testing office wants to store some extra materials BeyzaY: in that blog MoiraH: would a wiki not be a better choice? BarbaraS1: Vance has invited you to tune in to http://www.webcastacademy.net/listen BillC: with blogger, dunno. With wordpress it would work far as i can tell MoiraH: and does the testing office want all people to have access to the extra materials at all times? BeyzaY: it should be limited to instructors MoiraH: so you need something with access control RitaZ: do they need to modify it , Beyza, from time to time? EBobB: Sounds like a wiki page with limited authority would be better. MoiraH: Sorry Bobbi, I'm not going to be in the webcast today ;-) MoiraH: yes Bob, this is what I am thinking too BarbaraS1: np BeyzaY: they just want to upload files BeyzaY: and I 'll post the announcements BeyzaY: and funs tuff BillC: http://betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com/2007/02/upload-files-to-blogger.html BillC: don't know if this will answer it or not BarbaraS1: there is an answer to everything out there! BeyzaY: Ill try thanks RitaZ: I also guess a wiki will do, Beyza BeyzaY: well I dont feel myself comfortable with wikis BeyzaY: I2m a toddler wiki user BeyzaY D MoiraH -) I like that expression BarbaraS1: anybody here listening to the webcast? Vance asks RitaZ: when I'm in Istanbul we can work on a wiki together...;-)) MoiraH: ha, what a lead in ;-)))))) BillC: tried to control-click on the link and it doesn't seem to want to open BarbaraS1: hmmm BarbaraS1: dennis joined EBobB: I am going over to webcast acadamy. MoiraH: Beyza, in many blogs as you know, you can link or copy paste a Word Doc and then set the acess controls so that all, or friends, or contacts see it - this could be a solution too if you're happier with blogs BeyzaY: hugs MoiraH: Bye Beyza BarbaraS1: bye BeyzaY: bye RitaZ: bye, Beyza BeyzaY left the room (signed off). MoiraH: Well, I'm going to leave you good folks too and get back to making my PPT 'dynamic' without Internet ;-) Speak to you soon BillC: how's the man behind the curtain doing?
